I have a 09 optimax 350hrs an I love it

I have a stump the chump problem. Suzuki Df-50 My tell tail was not peeing intermittently. No ryme or reason. I tilt the motor full down and it steams out… I determined it was head gasket. After i replaced the impeller plate key and gaskets it pee’s under a water hose but not on it’s own at idle. Replaced the head assy (yep valves and all). Rebuild fuel separator and collant, replaced all hoses and T’s. Flushed the foot forward and back. Replaced the water pressure valved that is under the oil pan. Pulled all anodes out and flushed motor on and off. Still intermittent pee stream and steam outs at idle 900 rpms. Still same problem. Seems like the exhaust pressure is pushing the water out. When does the exhaust enter the water chamber. Could excessive exhaust pressure keep the water from pressurizing the head. I have separated every joint on this motor except the block piston cover. There is neither water or exhaust in that section of the motor. Any ideas please help. Next step is to backflush the system thru the pee hole with rydlyme and ‘hope’ it is a salt pack buried deep in a casting… If i take off the gearbox foot and attach a hose to the pickup tube i get a 3-4ft pee stream. Under impeller on the best day i get 1/2 foot. I have owned this motor since new and have always had a 2foot pee stream even at idle. I am completely stumped. I have done all the easy steps. welcome reply’s if you understand the water exhaust system and how they could get blocked up or keep the water from pressuring the engine.

Suzukis have a drain on the port side, bottom cylinder. Keep the engine up a bit allow water drain out of the head. Keep it down will result in build up and corrosion on the bottom, 4th, cylinder block/head.

Hello sir. I have a question. If you don't mind to answer this. I'm working on an idea of making a twin rudder boat. I'm having a trouble to make the rudder that can operate both simultaneously and individually with only a single steering. Is it possible to make it with this hydraulic steering?

Years back I had twin 4 liter V8 Johnsons (two strokes), on my 25 ft Cougar MTR Tunnel, loved those motors (modded to almost 400 H.p. each), but they burned an insane about of oil. If OMC could have figured out the reliability of making the two strokes environmentally friendly they would have been gold.

Hi my brother. I am presently repairing a 17 ft mako. The stringers are rotting and there are dry spots in the Woven roving on the floor. I know I have to repair those, but the side of the boat songs a bit hollow. The side are originally done with woven roving too. I am wondering if the hollow song in the sides need to be strengthen as well? Please let me know your thoughts.

Just do extensive research on what you want and what you’re looking at getting. Contact a surveyor if you wish or have a mechanic look at it. Be disciplined and do your homework (which you should when dropping serious $$). Ask for captains logs if available and maintenance records. Don’t be impulsive and you will be fine

You can also just put a clear wrap on your boat. Clear wraps are a lot cheaper but give you the same benefit.

a good practice is to run out your kedge (rear anchor) when wanting to beach your boat on its bow so you have some extra leverage to pull it off in case the wind shifts or the tide goes out (or in a lake, water level goes down for some reason: like a dam release).

I made a windshield with 1/8 plexiglass vs the 1/4 I should’ve used. You can definitely make one but it takes a lot of patience with a heat gun. Like anything probably takes 3 try’s to get good at.

I have a 2001 16' Boston Whaler with a 115hp 2-Stroke Mercury. Bought it new and still runs like new. I have never had to do anything to it but replace spark plugs and water pump impellers. I'll never change to a 4 stroke unless its mandatory in Michigan.

I like to come up slow on the sandbar and make sure I put it in neutral for a minute and check out how wind and current are affecting the boat before I line up my drift back into my spot. Sandbars can be packed with very tight spots to slide into.
